November: Insider Tips, News & Resources

Hi Reader,

A reader told me she felt overwhelmed when she saw the long list of 100+ introvert strengths in the Table of Contents of the newly published Awaken Your Introvert Strengths: Self-Coaching Journal for Reflection and Growth. (BTW, the journal is now also available in print on Amazon).

So, in this message, I want to focus on
overwhelm. While it shows up in different aspects of our personal and professional lives, it is not a bad thing or a sign to give up:

  1. Thriving on Your Own
  2. Job Search & Career Advice
  3. Relationships & Communication
  4. Business & Entrepreneurship
  5. Mind-Body-Spirit Connection
  6. Hobbies anyone?

1. Thriving on Your Own

Life throws us into new situations, or we invite them through our own actions. However, the same situation could feel overwhelming for one person, and manageable for another.
Why do some people get overwhelmed while others don't?
Or even if they do, why do they manage the situation differently?

Our reaction to a new situation depends on many factors. Whether or not we're aware of them, we can train our ability to respond without getting overwhelmed.
Once you feel overwhelmed, your reaction is like being on "autopilot"—it hijacks your thinking and affects your ability to choose consciously your next move.

The key to developing that ability is to become aware of the space (that split second) between what happened and your chosen action. What you do in that "space" can make all the difference.

It's been years since I last felt overwhelmed by new or stressful situations.
No, I don't have superpowers! My commitment to personal development, coaching, and a daily meditation practice helped me gradually develop this ability, which has become second nature. It didn't happen overnight.

You can develop it too. The good news is you don't need to spend years navigating trial and error. I'm already on the other side to guide you through this process and avoid common pitfalls (I've been there too!). That's why I offer Wholistic Life Coaching through Introverts Academy.

2. Job Search & Career Advice

Let's focus on the career aspect now. Overwhelm often shows up in the workplace, and it also affects your performance and how others perceive you.
(Yes, job searching can be overwhelming, but I have an award-winning book to address that.)
If you're an
introverted professional who:
• Often feels
misunderstood or overwhelmed in your workplace
• Notices that your valuable insights and strengths are
overlooked
• Leaves meetings
tired, knowing you had more to offer but didn’t get a chance to contribute ...
Let's address these. I know you have valuable insights, strengths, and good intentions.
What you need is a versatile system that relies on your natural traits and works
with your energy.

That's exactly what the upcoming webinar is about: From Overwhelmed to Clarity and Confidence: A Structured Way to Solve Workplace Challenges Using Your Introvert Strengths.

Join me on November 17 to explore a structured system that transforms your introversion into a reliable problem-solving toolkit for navigating overwhelming workplace situations without compromising your authentic self. The webinar is based on the Situation > Strengths > Insights > Growth framework from the journal, Awaken Your Introvert Strengths—a proven, step-by-step coaching process that empowers you to find customized solutions. And be less overwhelmed by the 136 introvert strengths list. There's also a special offer!
The ticket includes the digital version of the journal (with a printable PDF). If you already have it and want to attend the webinar, let me know.

3. Relationships & Communication

"A relative keeps pushing me to accept his ideas. What should I do in this case? It is overwhelming," said an introverted participant in a recent workshop.

In a one-on-one coaching session, I would ask questions and guide the client through an exercise to find the answer relevant to their specific situation (since various factors influence the solution). But this wasn't the right approach in that business-related workshop, with all the participants' eyes on me.

Instead of getting overwhelmed or reacting to the off-topic question, I allowed myself to tap into that "space" (between stimulus and reaction) to get inspired on what to say. Participants found my answer useful.

Even if you think you know the other person, assuming their reaction will keep you in a loop you can hardly escape. Each situation is unique based on the timing, the common objective (or lack thereof), people's moods, the urgency level, and other factors.

If you experience overwhelming situations related to your relationship(s) and you're open to exploring them, Introverts Academy has services and resources that can help.

4. Business & Entrepreneurship

The constant pressure of the ever-changing external environment, coupled with the internal challenges of keeping the business afloat and making the right decisions for growth, creates a high potential for overwhelm.

This is a hard truth for those who have never been in a leadership or entrepreneurship role to fully grasp. Which can become an extra burden for you if you are dealing with these complex challenges almost daily.

So, what actions can introverts in business take to decrease or avoid overwhelm?
That could certainly be a topic for a full book!
A few suggestions for now:
Schedule a meeting with yourself regularly—yes, despite all the other tasks—to reconnect with your "Why," and assess what's working and what's not.
Let go of what you can't control and focus on what you can: your time and energy, your decisions, what's working (80/20 rule), applying Jeff Bezos's Releasing the Work framework ...
"Detach" yourself from your business: You are not your business. You are a human being with a business. If you don't prioritize yourself enough, your business will suffer as well.
If you'd like support in finding wholistic solutions to manage your overwhelm, we're one click away.

5. Mind-Body-Spirit Connection

While we can look into how to avoid overwhelm or how to deal with it, it's also worth looking at overwhelm as a sign. When we are mentally or physically tired, it is easier to get overwhelmed because our capacity to handle life challenges is reduced.

Overwhelm could also be a signal that we are not heading in the right direction (or we lack the right strategy)—a way to slow us down so we can see other, better option(s).
This happened to me with the burnout I went through in 2016, which led me to writing—as a way to help more people than I could interact with directly.

So, it's okay to embrace the feeling of overwhelm instead of fighting it. Fighting leads to resisting what needs to unfold to align us in the right direction.
From a spiritual perspective, overwhelm can be seen as a powerful sign to make us stop and pay attention.

My wholistic coaching practice includes "Body-Centered" coaching methods combined with spiritual concepts, which allow you to
tap into your intuition to pinpoint what's ready to unfold—and find authentic ways to move forward.

6. Hobbies

Overwhelm doesn't always come from stress or a situation that's "too much."
You can experience this sensation even with a hobby. Or is that sensation actually
excitement?

These two feelings feel similar because they trigger a similar physiological response in the body. The key difference lies entirely in how you interpret these sensations.

I like Zig Ziglar's quote: "Fear has two meanings: Forget Everything And Run, or Face Everything and Rise."

Whether you're into bungee jumping, a zipline, or something less "risky," you can still experience that sensation. I prefer to lean into it with curiosity, to see what's ready to unfold.
What about you?

Happy Holidays

Hi Reader, Yesterday, I found a video of Romanian Christmas carols—which brought back beautiful memories. I enjoy singing carols at this time of year, but what was really special: the video featured Brașov (see image), the city I left behind when I moved to Canada 22 years ago. It also showed the slopes of Poiana Brașov (a ski resort only 12 km away)—where I spent many weekends skiing with friends.Time passed, but we evolved as well. I have no regrets about leaving that beauty behind, because...
